It's already day three of the new year and I feel behind on so many things. I'm behind on my own Bible reading plan, wanting to pray more, working on this or that, and it never seems to slow down where I can really just get lost in God's presence. That's when it hit me. Stop complaining Joel, because it's really about including God's presence in every activity no matter how boring or dull or frustrating. When I'm running errands for church, do I have joy in heart and do I bless those I encounter in the check out lane or do I just ignore everyone and try to finish everything as fast as possible. That is a quick way to go through life never really living or engaging another human being.
I'm reminded of the story of the woman at the well. Jesus was tired, busy, and probably had a lot on his mind...like dying on the cross, but he never allowed himself to miss divine opportunities to make a positive and life changing impact on those around him. He was the one that actually chose to journey through Samaria rather than going around it. Sometimes taking the longer route and the path of more resistance can open up amazing possibilities where we can encounter God's presence. This year let's look at every day as an opportunity for the amazing instead of falling into the new year's blues.
